Risk Services: Services for Government

The NSF risk management services operate on the principle that prevention is better than cure and that mitigation by controlling losses following a catastrophic event e.g. animal disease outbreak, is essential.

Industry and Government together will achieve better management of risk by sharing responsibilities - thus providing opportunities for improved regulation and a reduction in the regulatory burden in future.

NSF services include:

  • Risk management framework design
  • Standards/protocol definition
  • Management system design
  • Development of risk based methodologies eg for surveillance, indemnification etc
  • Accredited certification
  • Integrated co-regulation/cost sharing framework and operational process design
  • Development of training and communication programmes

NSF previous risk management projects:

DEFRA – NSF used its systems and preventive standards to measure levels of exposure and compliance after the foot and mouth outbreak 2001.

The Canadian Federal Government applied NSF disease risk management services, across livestock species, to measure exposures to internal and external infection points for primary reportable diseases. NSF has contributed to the design and authorship of the Canadian Government’s National Biosecurity Standard for Avian Species to be published in 2009.

A major South African insurer used NSF systems to measure exposure to drought in areas subject to desertification.

NSF has worked with the HSE to develop Risk Assessment standards aimed at reducing harm and the incidence of death and injury on farms.

The risk reports are formatted as a series of optional modules. For more information click here.
